A Northern California company was ordered to pay almost $1,300 for each of the 93 laborers a supervisor ordered to work in a lettuce field freshly sprayed with pesticides, the Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced.
The DA's office said a supervisor for The Growers Co. Inc. in October 2023 ignored signs warning that the field had been treated with pesticides in the last 24 hours. Sixty-six of the workers developed symptoms consistent with exposure to pesticides.
