Measure Proposes Presumptive Coverage for Additional Cancers

The West Virginia Senate on Friday unanimously passed a bill that would expand the list of cancers that are presumed to be compensable for firefighters. Senate Bill 170, by Sen. Ryan Weld, R-Brooke, would create the presumption that bladder cancer, testicular cancer and mesothelioma are compensable diseases for firefighters. State law already presumes that leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma arose out of employment as a firefighter. The bill also includes a sunsetting clause that would repeal the presumption for bladder cancer, testicular cancer and mesothelioma on July 1, 2027, unless ...
