Taxi Driver Disability Fund Stalled by City Attorneys

A health care and disability fund for New York City taxi drivers has $1.4 million in the bank, but it can’t be dispensed yet because an agreement with a fund administrator hasn’t been approved yet by city attorneys.The Taxi & Limousine Commission voted in 2012 to allow the fund to supplement health insurance and workers’ compensation for injured cabbies. Since October, cabbies have had to contribute 6 cents per fare to the fund.On Dec. 31, TLC Chairman David Yassky signed a contract with a nonprofit offshoot of the Taxi Workers Alliance to be the fund's administr...
