While commercial fishing deaths have declined across the nation in recent years, preventable incidents continue to be a problem for the industry, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
NIOSH has released a series of reports on commercial fishing fatalities in four regions of the U.S.: Alaska, West Coast, East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. The reports cover 2010 to 2014 and are an update to reports NIOSH published in 2010.
From 2000 to 2015, commercial fishermen were 29 times more likely to be killed on the job than the average U.S. worker, according to NIOSH....
