A chain of Tennessee-based pain clinics that counted among its principal owners a state senator bilked Medicare and other health care payers out of more than $25 million by ordering unnecessary drug tests and other services, according to a lawsuit filed last week by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The lawsuit accuses Anesthesia Services Associates, doing business as Comprehensive Pain Specialists, of violating the False Claims Act and the Tennessee Medicaid False Claims Act.
