Illinois lawmakers could consider a proposal to increase workers' compensation burial expenses by 25% during the second year of the current legislative session.
HB 4177 would increase the amount employers would have to pay to the widow, widower or person responsible for burial expenses, to $10,000 from $8,000.
Rep. Martha Deuter, D-Westmont, filed the bill with the clerk of the state House of Representatives on Oct. 22.
Lawmakers can begin deliberating on the measure when they return to the Capitol for the second half of the two-year session on Jan. 14.
