A federal judge denied Michael D. Drobot’s request to stay proceedings in a civil fraud case until he is sentenced in December in a criminal case based on similar allegations of inflating fees for spinal hardware and paying kickbacks to doctors who performed fusions at his Southern California hospital.Drobot pleaded guilty in April to one count of conspiracy and one count of paying kickbacks to doctors and others who referred workers’ compensation patients needing spinal surgeries to his Pacific Hospital of Long Beach.
