Maryland lawmakers are sending the governor a bill that would increase the base surcharge for the Uninsured Employers’ Fund and reduce the assessment for the Subsequent Injury Fund.
The House of Delegates on Sunday voted 134-0 to pass Senate Bill 8, by the Senate Finance Committee. The Senate voted 47-0 to pass the bill Wednesday.
The measure would increase the base surcharge for the Uninsured Employers’ Fund to 2% from the current 1%.
The Workers’ Compensation Commission would continue to be allowed to levy an additional 1% charge as needed to keep the fund solvent.
