The California Board of Pharmacy would oversee the state’s prescription drug-monitoring database, under a recently amended bill.
Assemblyman Evan Low, D-San Jose, on Thursday amended AB 2055, which aims to divest the Department of Justice from managing the Controlled Substances Utilization Review and Evaluation System.
Proponents say that while the Justice Department “worked laudably” to advance the state’s fight against opioid abuse, it would be more appropriate for a health agency as opposed to one focused on law enforcement to run the database.
