Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has signed an expansion of the state's cancer presumption law, but firefighters must still wait another year before they'll know if it takes effect.
House Bill 1804 would add colon, brain and testicular cancers to the list of diseases presumed to be work-related for firefighters, police, sheriffs, deputies and retired state police officers. But the provisions of the bill will not become effective unless “re-enacted by the 2020 session of the General Assembly,” the bill reads.
