The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation announced that a recent decision by the state comptroller held that charges for designated doctor exams are subject to sales and use taxes.
The comptroller concluded that designated doctor exams ordered by the Division of Workers’ Compensation are taxable insurance services, the DWC said.
“Designated doctors are responsible for collecting and remitting sales and use tax on charges to workers’ compensation insurance carriers for designated doctor exams,” the division said.
