Nurse Paying $130K to Resolve Kickback Allegations

Monday, November 26, 2018 | 0

An Oklahoma nurse has agreed to pay $130,000 to the U.S. government to resolve allegations that she accepted illegal kickbacks from Oklahoma Compounding, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oklahoma City announced.

The civil settlement with V. Erin Files, an advanced practice registered nurse from Edmond, will recoup losses resulting from the illegal kickbacks, the office said.

U.S. Attorney Trent Shores said in a press release that Files was among numerous health care providers who wrote prescriptions for pain creams compounded and sold by Oklahoma Compounding.

The pharmacy paid Files medical director fees based on an hourly rate, but the payments were actually kickbacks for prescribing the pain creams to patients insured by Tricare, a health care program for members of the military and retirees, prosecutors said.

The agreement resolves allegations that Files had an illegal financial relationship with Oklahoma Compounding, concerning pain creams in 2013.
