MakuSafe Moving Forward With Wearable Device to Monitor Workers' Environment

A startup that has created a wearable device to collect information about working conditions around an employee has raised more than $1.5 million in capital, including funds from EMC Insurance, its largest investor.
Iowa-based MakuSafe has received a patent for its wearable device, which the company expects to go to market next year, the DesMoines Register reported.
MakuSafe is an armband that can track noise, temperature, humidity and movement around a worker. It is designed with factory workers in mind.
MakuSafe cofounder and CEO Gabe Glynn told the Register that investors have tried to lure the company to venture capital hubs such as Silicon Valley, Boston or New York. EMC Insurance, which is based in Des Moines, announced its partnership with MakuSafe last year.
Rather than selling the device directly to factories, Glynn reportedly plans to market it to insurance companies, which can use the technology as part of their workers’ compensation coverage.
