Calif. City Takes 'Presumption-Like' Approach to First-Responder PTSD

While a bill pending in the California Legislature would create a presumption that post-traumatic stress disorder is compensable for firefighters, at least one jurisdiction in the state has already established a “presumption-like” process for public safety officer PTSD claims. The San Francisco Police Department has a Behavioral Science Unit to help officers who have experienced a traumatic event.
