Florida lawmakers are considering a measure that would add 911 dispatchers to the list of first responders who can have compensable claims for mental or nervous injuries without an accompanying physical injury that requires medical treatment.
Under SB 774, 911 operators could receive medical benefits if they prove a mental or nervous injury by clear and convincing evidence, regardless of whether they have a related physical injury. Currently, only law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians are eligible for medical benefits for standalone stress claims.
