Oil Boom Doubles WSI Earned Premium from Pre-Boom Levels

By Mark Larson, reporterThe influx of oil boom companies and workers has nearly doubled gross earned premium of North Dakota's Workforce Safety and Insurance, the state's monopolistic workers' compensation fund, from about $170 million annually from 2010, to last year's total of $333 million, according to fund statistics. In 2013, 43% of WSI premiums came from out-of-state companies, up from 25% three years ago, said WSI Director Bryan Klipfel.
