An Alabama plumbing contractor may have to pay up to $43,800 in penalties after being cited by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exposing its workers to trench collapse hazards.
Stephens Plumbing Inc., of Montgomery, was cited for one willful violation for allowing its workers into a trench up to 10 feet deep without installing cave-in protection. The inspection was part of OSHA’s national emphasis program on trenching and excavation after an inspector driving by saw workers working without protection.
