Judge Upholds OSHA Citations in Amputation Case

A judge has affirmed seven OSHA citations against an Alabama auto parts supplier that were issued following the amputation of a temporary worker’s hand and fingers. The employer, Matsu Alabama Inc., faces $103,000 in penalties under the Sept. 29 decision by Judge John B. Gatto of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. The judge ordered that an eighth citation be deleted, but increased the penalty for a repeat citation to the maximum amount, OSHA said in a news release on Monday.
