The New Mexico Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners adopted rules requiring providers to consult with the state's prescription drug-monitoring program and develop a written treatment plan when using controlled substances to manage chronic pain.Providers will also be required to complete continuing education hours in courses that review management of the treatment of pain, pharmacology and risks of controlled substances, a basic awareness of the problems of abuse, addiction and diversion, and state and federal prescribing regulations under the rules that take effect March 16.The new treat...
