Man Accused of Cashing Deceased Father's Comp Checks

Thursday, April 7, 2016 | 0

A Greene resident was indicted Tuesday on charges that he cashed his dead father's workers' compensation checks and used his electronic benefits card.

Prosecutors have accused Jason Seger, 36, of stealing nearly $3,000 in benefits from the Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Co. from July through mid-January.

He’s also accused of forging his father's signature on MEMIC checks for $105.36 each, the Lewiston-Auburn Sun-Journal reported. Seger's father, Michael, died July 13.

An Androscoggin County grand jury charged Seger with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking and one count of forgery, the Sun-Journal said. Each charge is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000.
