The U.S. Department of Labor announced that its Occupational Safety and Health Administration launched a new initiative aimed at improving worker protections from the risks of silica exposure with engineered stone.
The initiative replaces OSHA’s National Emphasis Program for respirable crystalline silica and focuses enforcement efforts on employers to make sure they’re following required safety standards, the agency said. The initiative establishes procedures for prioritizing federal OSHA inspections in industries where workers face high levels of exposure to silica dust.
