KEMI Says Indemnity Benefits Available to First Responders in Quarantine

Monday, March 16, 2020 | 0

Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance on Friday announced that it will provide indemnity benefits for first responders and medical personnel employed by its policyholders who are quarantined for COVID-19 as a result of their increased risk of exposure in the course of employment.

“The wage replacement benefits while in quarantine would cover first responders and any employee in the medical field that has had direct contact with a person diagnosed with the COVID-19,” KEMI said in a statement.

Communicable diseases are already compensable for people who become sick as a consequence of the nature of their work. However, KEMI said it’s expanding coverage benefits to include the time first responders and medical workers are in quarantine, even if they don’t contract the virus.

KEMI also added to its website a coronavirus information page.

Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee on March 5 announced that the Department of Labor & Industries would provide benefits to first responders and health care workers who are quarantined.
