Roofing Co. Owner Sentenced to 250 Days for Premium and Tax Fraud

The owner of a California roofing business must serve 250 days in county jail and pay $718,000 in restitution after being sentenced Wednesday for workers' compensation premium and payroll tax fraud, the Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced. Juan P. Gutierrez of Salinas pleaded guilty to two counts of making a material misrepresentation in order to obtain lower workers' compensation premiums and one count of willfully failing to file payroll tax returns with intent to evade tax.
