Subcontractor Gets Stop-Work Order for Alleged Violations

Thursday, March 18, 2021 | 0

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has cited a subcontractor performing work on the Jersey Shore boardwalk for six alleged violations, including misclassifying employees as independent contractors and failing to carry workers’ comp insurance, according to local media reports.

Labor officials issued a stop-work order to Galo Contractors Group, which also has been accused of failing to register as a public works contractor and pay prevailing wage, according to New York TV station News 12.

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development issued the stop-work order March 9.

A Keansburg official told the news station that the borough was not aware that Ascend Construction had subcontracted the boardwalk job to Galo Contractors Group.

Labor officials began investigating the subcontractor after they received complaints from employees, News 12 reported.

Ascend is now expected to finish the $170,000 project itself, News 12 reported.
