CNA Financial Corp. on Monday reported first quarter net income of $342 million, a 17% increase from $291 million in the first quarter of 2018.
In the commercial segment, net written premiums grew 2%, to $849 million. The segment’s combined ratio for the quarter was 101.3%, compared to 97.1% in the prior-year quarter. The company said net catastrophe losses in the quarter were $40 million, up from $29 million in the first quarter of 2017.
