California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara approved regulatory changes proposed by the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau to account for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The WCIRB recommended that costs of COVID-19 claims with an accident date on or after Dec. 1, 2019, be excluded from experience rate calculations for employers. These claims are “unlikely to be a strong predictor of that employer’s future workers’ compensation claim costs,” the WCIRB said in a statement announcing the regulatory filing.
