Chip Terhune, who started as SAIF CEO and president July 1, also identified diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as sustaining the carrier’s work culture, as priorities.

He added that dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic will probably be his main focus during the first year of his tenure.

“We’re a health and safety company, so the pandemic looms large over the next year so I think that will be the top priority for the immediate horizon,” Terhune said.

Terhune served as chief of staff for former Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski, who was in office from 2003 to 2011. He was also an assistant executive director of the Oregon Educational Association.

Additionally, Terhune was director of environmental and public affairs at Schnitzer Steel in Portland and held multiple vice president roles at Cambia Health Solutions, also in Portland.

Terhune has a bachelor’s in international studies and a master’s in public affairs from the University of Oregon.
