More than one-third of reports from consulting physicians for orthopedic injuries in emergency rooms were inaccurate in a recent study, including 30% of open fractures that were described as closed, according to findings detailed this month in AAOS Now, a publication of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
And the inaccurate diagnoses had “a significant impact on management” in 74% of cases, according to the research by Dr. Nicholas Kusnezov of the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas.
