Just days after the Legislature approved Senate Bill 3164, Gov. Phil Murphy signed the measure that re-establishes tort-claims protection for hundreds of New Jersey Transit rail workers. The speed of Murphy's pen surprised some observers.
The rapid response means that workers at one of the nation's busiest and most dangerous rail operations will now have some recourse if they are injured — and dozens of injury cases can now proceed or be tried again.
