Statewide Contractor Sweep Generates 63 Stop-Work Orders

Friday, June 28, 2019 | 0

The California Contractors State License Board announced a statewide sweep that resulted in 63 stop-work orders for failure to carry workers’ compensation.

CSLB said three undercover stings and 46 sweeps that took place between June 3-25 resulted in 169 “legal actions” against licensed and unlicensed contractors. Many of the those caught in the sting were cited or ordered to appear in court to face charges of unlicensed contracting.

Twelve of the suspects who were ordered to appear did not have workers’ compensation coverage, CSLB said. In all, the board said the enforcement effort resulted in 63 stop-work orders.

“CSLB investigators can halt job site activity when any person, with or without a contractor license, does not have workers’ compensation insurance coverage for employees,” the board said in a statement. “Failure to comply with a stop order can result in misdemeanor charges and penalties, including 60 days in jail and/or up to $10,000 in fines."
