Veteran Former Insurance Chief Dies in Raleigh

Former North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long, the state's top insurance regulator for 24 years, died Monday from a stroke he suffered 11 days after leaving office.Gov. Bev Perdue's office confirmed that Long, 68, died Monday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C., from a stroke he suffered on Jan. 21.Long chose not to seek another term last year and hand-picked Assistant Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin to run for the job.Goodwin easily won the post in November and replaced Long as head of the North Carolina Insurance Department on Jan. 10, Perdue's office said.Perdue ordere...
