Former Bell Gardens Cop Pleads No Contest to Fraud Charges

A former Bell Gardens police officer pleaded no contest to fraud charges for filing a workers’ compensation claim for an injury sustained as part of a pre-employment agility test for another Southern California police department, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Paul Suzuki on April 2 ordered John Kovacs, 31, to complete 400 hours of community service and pay a $4,000 fine to State Compensation Insurance Fund. Kovacs will return to court on Oct. 2 for sentencing, the District Attorney’s Office said in a statement....
