A director for the National Labor Relations Board concluded that members of the Dartmouth College men’s basketball team are employees in a decision allowing the players to hold a union election.
Laura A. Sacks, an NLRB regional director, said in a decision published Monday that the basketball players perform work that benefits the university. While there may be some dispute about how profitable the men’s basketball team is at Dartmouth, a private Ivy League school in New Hampshire, profitability doesn’t affect the employee status of those performing work, Sacks said.
