The Florida Municipal Insurance Trust, which handles workers' compensation and other insurance for local governments in the state, has named a Tampa-area city councilwoman to its board of trustees.

Patricia Johnson, council member and vice mayor of Pinellas Park, was appointed to the trustee post last week, according to a local news report. She was elected to the city council in 2012, and she and her husband own an equestrian center.

The Trust, also known as FMIT, is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, risk-sharing pool that was established in the 1970s and is administered by the Florida League of Cities.
