Court Upholds Medical Director's Decision to Approve Surgery

A Louisiana appellate court upheld a decision by the medical director to approve a surgical procedure requested by a worker’s treating neurosurgeon. Case: City of Abbeville v. Suire, No. 19-847, 06/03/2020, published. Facts: Clifford Suire worked for the City of Abbeville. He allegedly injured himself while attempting to lift a 100-pound root cutter into his work truck. Dr. Jason Cormier performed an anterior cervical discectomy at levels C5-6 and C6-7 of Suire's neck in April 2013. Cormier referred Suire to Dr. Daniel Hodges for pain management in 2016.
