A Jefferson City roofing contractor was fined $12,471 after a 47-year-old man died of heatstroke on his third day on the job this summer, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced last week.
Weathercraft Inc. put the man to work installing roofing at Helias High School on a 90-degree day in August. He collapsed and was taken to the hospital, where a thermometer registered his core body temperature at above 107 degrees.
Announcing the fine last week, OSHA reminded employers to make sure workers have frequent access to water and shade in the heat.
