After gaining 2.6 million jobs in 2018, private sector employment is forecast to grow 1.8% this year, slowing to 0.9% in 2020, according to a quarterly economics briefing from the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
Overall for the first quarter of 2019, job growth averaged 180,000 per month, as new jobs bounced, from 312,000 in January to 33,000 in February, NCCI said. The first-quarter average is a decrease from 223,000 new jobs per month in 2018.
