Los Angeles Police Department employees filed 3,602 workers' compensation claims last year, but efforts to evaluate those injuries and others are being thwarted by the lack of data, according to a report presented to the Board of Police Commissioners.
Alexander A. Bustamante, the commission's inspector general, was trying to identify risk management issues within the department following a March 2015 report by the city controller finding 60% of all police officers have filed at least one workers' compensation claim and 42% have filed two or more claims.
