Ohioans Can Use Medicinal Pot but Not Smoke It — and They Still Can Be Fired for It

Ohio is the 26th state to legalize medicinal marijuana, but employees who get hurt on the job while under the influence of pot still can be denied workers’ compensation or fired for violating an employer’s drug-free or zero-tolerance drug policies. Gov. John Kasich signed House Bill 523 on Wednesday following the Senate’s earlier 18-15 vote and the House’s passage by 67-29. It takes effect Sept. 6.
