The Industrial Commission of Arizona cut the total tax and assessment rate for self-insured employers to 1.5% in 2016 from 2.25% in 2015.
The reduction is a result of the commission not charging any assessments for the Special Fund, which pays for medical and indemnity benefits for workers injured while working for self-insured employers, or whose claims were administered by insolvent carriers or bankrupt self-insureds. The fund also pays for vocational rehabilitation benefits as well as second-injury claims.
In 2015, the Special Fund assessment was 0.75%, and in 2014 it was 1.75%.
