Just as stakeholders on both sides of the debate over which cancers should be presumed compensable for Texas firefighters thought they had finally reached a workable solution, a last-minute amendment may cause complications.
Senate Bill 2551 would expand the official list of presumed cancers, to 11, and impose penalties on municipal insurers that thwart legitimate claims or commit other administrative violations in handling them. It passed the Senate earlier this month and was approved by the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
