A bill on Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's desk would allow volunteer fire protection associations to apply for grants from the State Fire Marshal to help pay for workers' compensation coverage for volunteer firefighters.
Senate Bill 613 by Sen. Mike Cunningham, R-Rogersville, makes grants of $500 to $2,000 available to the associations. Associations with fewer than five claims are eligible for the largest grants, while associations with 16 to 20 claims are eligible for $500 toward the cost of insurance.
