A Massachusetts trolley driver accused of staging a workplace assault in order to collect workers’ compensation benefits has pleaded not guilty to fraud.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office says that in 2016 46-year-old Thomas Lucey paid a friend $2,000 to attack him in front of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority cameras. The friend, wearing a pumpkin mask, pulled Lucy off of the train he was driving and repeatedly punched him.
Lucey collected at least $30,561.72 in benefits after the fake assault, which continued until he was indicted in February, according to a report by the CBS affiliate in Boston.
Lucey pleaded not guilty to all charges in Suffolk County Superior Court on Tuesday.
