A Virginia state lawmaker known for his efforts to reform the workers' compensation system after he suffered an injury announced that he is running for governor.
Lee Carter, 33, who calls himself a progressive Democrat and a democratic socialist, made the announcement Sunday. The party primary is set for June 8 and the general election will be in November. The incumbent, Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, is term-limited and cannot seek a consecutive term.
