Twelve Massachusetts distributors of Kirby vacuum cleaners have been cited for misclassifying workers as independent contractors and for violation of child-labor and minimum-wage laws, state Attorney general Martha Coakley announced Wednesday.Coakley said in a press release the distributors were fined $199,300 and ordered to pay restitution."We have cited these companies for the denial of wages to these workers and their intentional failure to provide payroll records to our office," Coakley said.
