The Illinois Appellate Court ruled that an injured paramedic was not entitled to coverage under the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act. Case: Mitchell v. Village of Barrington, No. 12 CH 34218, 11/23/2016, published. Facts: Jodie Mitchell worked for the Village of Barrington as a paramedic. She injured her back in January 2007 when she slipped on a patch of ice. Mitchell continued to work until April 2007, then she went on a medical leave of absence. The village terminated her in January 2008 after determining it was unlikely she'd be able to return to work in the foreseeable future. ...
