Workers' Deaths Could Have Been Avoided, OSHA Says, Citing nearly $200K in Penalties

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration said that two men who had fallen to their deaths late last year could have been saved, had they been wearing proper personal safety gear.  Florjan Nilaj, 25, and Gazmend Vukaj, 40, were both painting a water tower last October seven stories high when their scaffold collapsed and the two plummeted to their deaths.  OSHA inspectors found that their employer, V&T Painting LLC, had not provided the painters with required equipment to stop their falls, according to OSHA.
