Former Virginia Insurance Commissioner Alfred Gross Jr. died last Thursday -- seven months after he retired from the post he had held for 14 years.Gross was 65. He was a professor of German at Kalamazoo College and Virginia Commonwealth University before he went to work for the Virginia Bureau of Insurance in 1981.He was appointed insurance commissioner in 1996 and retired effective last Dec. 31.His funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. (EDT) today at St. Edward's Church in Richmond, Va.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Haitian Church Building Fund at St. Edward's, 2700 Do...
