The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Ensign United States Drilling, headquartered in Dallas, for two repeat safety violations for exposing workers to possible hazards during oil well explosions, OSHA announced in a release. Proposed penalties for the repeat violations total $65,000.
Ensign was cited for failing to correct deficiencies found during a November 2011 investigation. As a result of that probe, OSHA cited Ensign in January 2012 for an obstruction in the path of the oil well’s emergency escape line, known as the Geronimo Line.
