A new report by the Texas Division of Workers' Compensation shows an uptick in the number of employers who have opted out of the state's voluntary comp system despite declines in premiums in recent years.
Insurers and regulators aren't sounding any alarms, though, and note that the trend over the last 25 years has been toward a steady increase in employer participation. The percentage of workers covered by subscribing employers remains fairly steady, at about 82%, according to the report by the DWC's Research and Evaluation Group.
